Dance like the wind

Sitting in the dark
Back against the pillow
Staring out toward the city skyline

The wind blows, bringing chills to my bones
Raising goosebumps and sending shudders down my back
Sounds of car tyres running over tram tracks,
and honks from impatient drivers

My world grows silent
The mind wanders for miles
My toes wiggle to keep warm
My eyelids droop to shield the delicate irises from glare and smoke

Is this comfort I feel on this cold wintry night?
Or is it exhaustion playing her usual tricks.
