I remember when I was 10

You walked out the door
Too young to understand, my only instinct to go after you
"Please don't go", with tears running down my cheeks
That moment, seemed to have tugged at your heart.

Time went on
Life seemed to have been normal
All was well
Or so I thought

Perhaps it was loneliness
The lack of communication
Life seemed to have gone backwards
That moment, back in time.

A movie in replay
Except my eyes are older
17 years later
Things are different
The movie shown in a darker shade of grey

I wish I could play a role
A role to make things right
But it is not to be
I am but a backdrop
